Overview

Terrestrials arising from fleshy, fasciculate roots. Leaves rosulate, grass-like to petiolate. Inflorescences terminal erect long-pedunculate racemes, the floral bracts conspicuous. Flowers resupinate. Sepals and petals free, spreading, the doral sepal hood-like. Lip unlobed, sessile, usually with papillose callus. Colum arching, slender, elongate, without wings or foot; pollinia 2.

Etymology

From the Greek megas, meaning large, and stylis, meaning style, referring to the large column.

Distribution

A genus of eight species from New Caledonia, Australia, and New Zealand.
