Etymology
From the Greek rhynchos, meaning beak, and stylis, meaning column, referring tot he beaked-column of the type species.
Distribution
A genus of three species widespread in tropical Asia from India to Borneo and the Philippines.

Grow Rhynchostylis in baskets without any potting medium or with a very coarse potting mixture. Provide bright diffuse light and frequent watering (daily when no potting mixture is used). Failure to flower in cultivation is typically caused by too little light. Rhynchostylis gigantea and R. retusa should be given warm or intermediate temperatures while R. coelestis should be given cool-intermediate temperatures.
