One of the three foundational pillars of the American Orchid Society is to promote and support the passion for orchids through education. The American Orchid Society Education Committee awards grants to projects which develop, implement, maintain and/or support comprehensive educational programs and activities that embrace learners of any age level.*
We are looking to promote a wide range of projects. Affiliation with a learning institution is preferable but not a requirement. An application with a detailed description of the project and detailed budget is required. Please see the grant application and requirements.
Below are links to a few of our more recent grant recipients:
- “Education Committee Grants – Cultivating a Passion for Orchids” – Orchids – January 2023
- “New Education Grants” – Orchids – December 2021
You may also contact the AOS Education Committee directly at education_committee@aos.org for questions about the process.
*Note: U.S. citizens associated with an educational institution or non-government tax-exempt organization receive the funds through that organization. U.S. citizens who are not associated with an educational institution or non-government tax- exempt organization are considered independent contractors and will be issued a 1099, which will be subject to federal taxes.
Foreign nationals must be associated with an educational institution or non-government tax-exempt organization and will receive the funds through that organization. Commercial firms will receive a 1099 with the caveat that the work done must be freely accessible to the public and not benefit only the commercial firm.
