Deborah Boersma

Deborah earned a BSc. from the University of Waterloo and a Biochemistry Advanced Diploma from Northern College.

She worked as a researcher for five years in medical microbiology and infectious diseases at both the University of Calgary and Foothills Hospital in Calgary, Alberta and recently retired from St. Clair College in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, having taught chemistry for over 28 years.

Past positions at St. Clair College: Chair of the Joint Health and Safety Committee, Member of the Chemical Laboratory Technology Program Advisory Committee and Academic Council and Chemical Laboratory Technology Program Coordinator.

Deb is an AOS Associate Judge in the Great Lakes Judging Center, Ann Arbor, Michigan, a member of the AOS Affiliated Society Committee, the Judging Handbook Task Force and the Accelerated Promotion and Self-Paced Education Task Force of the Judging Committee. She is also a proofreader for ORCHIDS magazine.

She has been active in orchids for many years including staging exhibits at a number of shows. She is also a past President of the Windsor Orchid Society and newsletter editor. Currently Show Chair and Society Fundraising Chair.

Deborah was an invited speaker at the Taiwan World Orchid Conference in 2024.
