Jay started growing orchids about 30 years ago with the purchase of a couple of plants from a home improvement store. He put those “tropical” plants out in the full sun and rain and they were gone within a week so he vowed to learn more about these plants and to do better in the future.
He lives in Houston where he is a member of the Houston Orchid Society and has held all positions in that local club and continues as Show Chair. He has been a member of the AOS for nearly 30 years with positions as the IT Committee Chair, Trustee, Vice President and now President.
Jay also does a bit of hybridizing and made an awarded bulbophyllum named after his wife, Bulb. Tonya Jacobs.
