Dryadella-elata-2022-01-27Determined to be Dryadella simula, not Dryadella elata (Feb 2022); identified with the aid of Alfonso Doucette; sepal, petal and lip shape, as well as the color, are not correct for D. elata; this plant does not match Luer's line drawing and Alex Hirtz's photo of D. elata; this plant closely matches D. simula in Ecuadorean Orchids II, Colombian Orchids I and the Orchidacearum Peruvianum; however, there are many similar Dryadellas and without a detailed photo which shows the distinctive toothed petals, the identification cannot be 100%.

Description from entry form: Sixteen triangular flowers and six buds at the base of a plant 7.0 cm wide by 9.0 cm tall by 8.0 cm deep with lanceolate leaves measuring up to 8 cm long by 0.6 cm wide mounted on a wood block 5 cm wide by 13 cm long by 1.5 cm deep; leaf base encased by bract; flowers rise through bract on 1.0-cm long inflorescence; acuminate sepals, very small petals and lip chartreuse evenly dotted burgundy, dorsal sepal strongly hooded; petals and lip too small to measure; substance firm; texture matte.
