Finding

SITF has determined this plant to be Trichocentrum caloceras, not T. pupulinianum (Mar 2025). The taxonomist of record, Franco Pupulin, has identified this plant as Trichocentrum caloceras. The flowers are similar, but because of the shorter, more broad leaves and plant form, it is a better match to T. caloceras than T. pupulinianum. A photos of T. caloceras closely matching this plant can be found in the orchidroots.com and IOSPE.

One charming and welcoming flower on one 0.5-cm inflorescence emerging from the base of one of three ovate-lanceolate dark green leaves, underside flushed burgundy, mounted on a 4-cm x 7-cm wood slab; sepals and petals translucent pale yellow, apices subacute; lip ovate, white, blotched burgundy, side lobes extend forward, blotched light burgundy; substance firm; texture slightly crystalline; personally identified on site by Franco Pupulin for whom the species was named.
