Overview
Caespitose epiphytes producing fan-shaped growths. Stems very short. Leaves alternate, distichous, lanceolate, acuminate, thin-textured. Inflorescences axillary, one-flowered. Flowers fleshy, not resupinate. Sepals and petals free, spreading, subsimilar, subequal. Lip unlobed, deeply concave, with a central callus. Column straight, winged, with a short foot; pollinia 4, compressed, sessile on a common viscidium.
Etymology
Named to honor epiphyte biologist David Benzing.
Distribution
A genus of two species endemic to Ecuador.

Grow plants of Benzingia in small pots or baskets using a fine-grade epiphyte mixture. Provide medium light levels, cool-intermediate temperatures, high humidity, and regular watering throughout the year. Plants of Benzingia should not be allow to dry out for long periods of time.
