Overview
Terrestrials arising from fasciculate tuberous roots. Leaves rosulate, membranous, petiolate, often withered at flowering. Inflorescences terminal, erect, pedunculate and one-flowered or pedunculate racemes. Flowers cupped. Sepals and petals free, spreading, the dorsal sepal and petals subsimilar, subequal, the lateral sepals elongate, plumose along the margins in the upper halves. Lip unlobed to three-lobed, clawed, variously ornamented with trichomes and(or) fleshy protuberances. Column arching, without wings or foot; pollinia 2, granular.
Etymology
From the Latin bi, meaning two, and pinna, meaning feather, referring to the plumose lateral sepals characteristic of the genus.
Distribution
A genus of seven species in southern South America.

Grow plants of Bipinnula in small pots of sandy loam. Provide intermediate temperatures and bright light. Water the plants regularly when in active growth. After the inflorescences appear and the leaves begin to wither reduce watering and water at a maintenance level until the appearance of new shoots.
