Overview
Caespitose terrestrials. Pseudobulbs ovoid. Leaves solitary, petiolate. Inflorescences terminal, scapose, the floral bract ephemeral, bifid. Flowers one. Sepals and petals free, spreading, subsimilar, subequal. Lip three-lobed, spurred, sessile, with basal callus keels. Column straight, without foot, with broad petaloid wings, the rostellum bifid; pollinia 4, sessile on a common viscidium.
Etymology
Named for the botanical collector, Chang-nien Chen of the Academia Sinica who discovered this genus near Nanking, China.
Distribution
A monotypic genus endemic to China.

Grow Changnienia in shallow pots or bulb pans in living sphagnum moss. Provide intermediate temperatures, low light, and regular watering throughout the year. Native to wet banks and seepages, the roots of Changnienia should not be dry for any extended period of time.
