Overview

Miniature monopodial epiphytes. Stems short, rooting at the base. Leaves alternate, distichous, leathery. Inflorescences axillary pedunculate racemes, the floral bracts minute. Flowers borne singly in succession, ephemeral or lasting several days. Sepals and petals free, spreading. Lip three-lobed, saccate, clawed, flexibly hinged to the column foot, the apex of the spur solid tissue. Column stout or cylindric-arching, without wings, with a foot; pollinia 2, on a common linear stipe and minute visicidum.

Etymology

From the Greek chronios, meaning lasting or persistent, and cheilos, meaning lip, reeferring to the long-lasting flowers of the type species.

Distribution

A genus of four species from Thailand to Borneo.
