Overview

Terrestrials arising from fleshy fasciculate roots. Stems short. Leaves basal, erect, grass-like. Inflorescences terminal erect long-pedunculate densely-flowered racemes. Flowers numerous, nearly actinomorphic. Sepals and petals free, spreading, subsimilar, subequal. Lip unlobed, subsimilar to the sepals and petals, without callus. Column short, without wings or foot; pollinia 2, sessile on a common minute viscidium.

Etymology

From the Greek koilos, meaning hollow, and cheilos, meaning lip, referring to the concave base of the lip.

Distribution

A monotypic genus endemic to New Caledonia.
