Overview

Succulent trailing terrestrials rooting at the nodes. Stems erect. Leaves clustered at the stem apex, petiolate, spirally arranged, withering without abscission. Inflorescences terminal, erect, long-scapose, spicate racemes. Flowers inconspicuous, barely opening. Sepals and petals free, subsimilar. Lip unlobed, deeply globose-saccate. Column very short, with an elongate two-rponged rostellum; pollinia 4, sessile on a minute common viscidium.

Etymology

From the Greek hyle, meaning forest, and philos, meaning lover of, alluding to the deep forest habitat.

Distribution

A genus of six species from southeast Asia to New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.
