Etymology

From the Greek rhynchos, meaning snout, and Laelia, a genus of orchids, referring to the beaked fruit used to distinguish this genus from Laelia.

Distribution

A genus of two species in Mesoamerica. Rhyncholaelia has been included in a broadly defined Brassavola and R. digbyana is the Brassavola component of most complex horticultural hybrids such as ? Brassolaeliocattleya.
