Overview
Miniature, short-lived, monopodial epiphytes. Stems short. Leaves alternate, distichous, lanceolate, acute. Inflorescences axillary pendent racemes, the floral bracts minute. Flowers numerous. Sepals and petals free, spreading. Lip three-lobed, rigidly fused to the base of the column, saccate or spurred. Column cylindric, without a foot or wings; pollinia 4, in two very unequal pairs on an elongate common stipe and minute viscidium.
Etymology
From Saccolabium, a genus of orchids, and the Greek opsis, meaning a resemblance, in an allusion to the similarity of the plants to Saccolabium.
Distribution
A genus of 13 species ranging from northeast India to New Guinea.
