From the Greek saura, meaning lizard, and glossa, meaning tongue, alluding to the similarity of both leaves and floral segments to the tongue of serpents.

Grow plants of Sauroglossum in pots of terrestrial mixture. Provide bright light, cool temperatures, and regular watering throughout the year. Most species of Sauroglossum inhabit dry areas in nature and the plants should be kept lightly watered without a pronounced wet period or dry period.
