Etymology
From the Greek skaphe, meaning bowl or tub, and sepalum, meaning sepal, referring to the fused lateral sepals which form a bowl-like structure.
Distribution
A genus of 30 species found from Mexico to Bolivia.

Scaphosepalums may be grown on slabs but are probably best accommodated in small pots using a fine potting medium. Give the plants intermediate to cool temperatures, medium light levels, and do not allow the roots to dry out excessively. Vigorous growing, most Scaphosepalums should be periodically divided into clumps of 20-30 growths to allow the inflorescences and flowers to show to advantage. ............................................
