Overview
Caespitose terrestrials. Pseudobulbs ovoid, subtended by foliaceous bracts with the blades quickly deciduous, usually armed with spines at the apex. Leaves several, large, plicate, elliptic, acuminate, petiolate. Inflorescences basal one-flowered scapes, the bracts conspicuous. Flowers waxy, fleshy, globose. tulip-shaped. Sepals and petals free, subsimilar. Lip three-lobed, flexibly hinged to the column foot, with a central callus. Column stout, somewhat arching and club-shaped, with a long foot and wings; pollinia 4, in two tightly appressed unequal pairs, on a common linear stipe and viscidium.
Etymology
Named in honor of Don Francisco de Angulo, the contemporary Director-General of Mines in Peru.
Distribution
A genus of nine species and three natural hybrids from Andean South America.

Grow plants of Anguloa in a medium-grade epiphyte mixture that includes moisture-retaining components. Provide bright light and cool temperatures. Water regularly while in active growth. After the pseudobulbs have matured reduce watering to a minimal level until the onset of new growth. The roots of Anguloa are easily damaged and repotting should only be done after the onset of root production associated with new growth.
