Etymology
Named to honor Dr. Bernardino Antoio Gomes, a Portugese naval physician and botanist, author of a book on the medicinal plants of Brazil.

A genus of 13 species native to Brazil and southern South America.

Grow caespitose plants of Gomesa in baskets or pots of medium-grade epiphyte mixture. Mount creeping species on slabs without any moisture-retaining material at the roots. Provide bright light levels, intermediate temperatures, and regular watering throughout the year. Allow the roots to dry out between waterings. The root systems of Gomesa plants are susceptible to poorly aerated potting media and care should be taken to avoid overpotting.
