Eulophia species

Question

We have growing on our property both Eulophia alta and Eulophia ecristata. We have been told that these are now considered to be a genus found only in Africa. What do we call them now? — Connie Timm

Answer

Only Eulophia alta is also found in Africa; it is widespread in South and Central America and reaches Florida growing as far north as maybe southern Georgia. Eulophia ecristata only occurs in the United States (Florida west to Louisiana, and in both North and South Carolina) and Cuba. —Ken Roberts
