Summary

The AOS is proud to announce its 6th Orchid Culture Day: "Know More November: Orchid Culture, Conservation and YOU!" Sunday, November 10th starting at 11:00 AM Eastern.

Enjoy four speakers all in one day from the comfort of your home. It might be snowing in some places, but we can always learn more about Orchids. Come with your coffee and snacks! Spend a day with these delightful speakers and learn about genera, history, hybridizing and of course CULTURE! There will be door prizes! Registration: $40.

Our Speakers:

John Romano - How to Grow Award-Worthy Species Orchids. Take your orchid skills to the next level. Learn how to choose and grow species which may be threatened in their natural habitat and get tips on preparing an orchid for judging!

Jason Fischer - Growing Vanilla. With the species' population in decline, and their habitats being repurposed and overexploited, the Vanilla orchid is listed on the endangered IUCN Red list of Threatened Species. If there was no vanilla, how many of our favorite foods, scents and more would be affected? This lecture will cover the various species of vanilla, how to grow and create the seedpod, harvest and create your own Vanilla extract!

Lucy Matos-Lodato and Keith Clark - Installing and Maintaining Orchids with the Flamingo Gardens Orchidteers. Join this orchid "squad" as they share tips on installing and maintaining orchids on trees. Learn the secrets of creating your own outdoor orchid oasis from this amazing team of volunteers who have transformed Flamingo Gardens in Davie, Florida, into an Orchid Paradise.

Ben Oliveros - Hawaiian Sunrise and Greenhouse Growing. Tour the Orchid Eros nursery located on the slopes of the Kilauea Volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii and learn greenhouse culture tips from an Accredited orchid judge and multiple AOS Annual Award-winner.
