Summary
Peter Zale of Longwood Gardens presents information on this important conservation effort. Southern Tanzania is a regional terrestrial orchid hot spot with unique conservation challenges. Many terrestrial orchid species produce large, edible tubers harvested and used to make chikanda. This culinary delicacy has led to widespread decimation of terrestrial orchid populations. Because of the demand, there is increased poaching and a great need for conservation measures to protect them. Peter will describe their efforts.
