SITF finds this plant to be C. commelinifolium ssp. szymborskianum (Jul 2024). It matches the description of C. commelinifolium ssp. szymborskianum, which is validated by Kew as a ssp. This subspecies marches the Red-purple type and leaf form. Var. atropurpureum is not recognized as a validly published subspecies of Crdpidium commelinifolium. This plant matches the description of the subspecies szymborskianum found in https://www.biotaxa.org/Phytotaxa/article/view/phytotaxa.204.2.7, "A new subspecies of Crepidium commelinifolium" by Hanna B Margonska. It matches the photos of the purple forms of Crepidium commelinifolium in orchidroots.com. This species appears widely variable in color and plant form in different locations and may possibly be separated in the future.
