Finding

SITF has determined this plant to be Epidendrum adsettii, not Epidendrum difforme (Aug 2024). The identification of this plant is based in part on its collection location in Cerro Azul Panama. Epi. difforme is found only in the Lesser Antilles to Trinidad. This plant closely matches the photo of E. adsettii on Plate 1569, Genus Epidendrum Part 11, Icones Orchidacearum, 2016, although this flower appears to be more translucent than the darker green in the Iones photo.

Ten stellate flowers and 5 buds emerging from terminal leaf axil of mature stems up to 13cm on plant 16cm wide x 16.2cm long, in a 16cm square plastic pot in sphagnum moss; leaves alternate, elliptic, 1.0cm wide x 5.1 cm long, green, margins entire; sepals and petals uniformly light chartreuse, translucent, margins entire; sepals lanceolate, recurved lateral edges, petals oblanceolate, porrect; lip wide obcordate, recurved, slight undulate margin; column tubular with erose margin at apex, cream, anther cap browning with age; keiki roots undulate, velum cream, tips green-brown; substance firm; texture satin; commended for its diminutive size compared to awarded plants; species from Cerro Azul, Panama; ID by SITF_______________________.
