Dendrobium lunatum 'Bryon' CBR-2024-05-18

Posted on May 18, 2024

Finding
SITF has determined this plant to be Dendrobium albayense, not lunatum (Aug 2024). Both D. albayense and D. lunatum have purple-striped sepals and petals, but the lip of lunatum is distinctly different from that of albayense. Dendrobium lunatum ias named for the half-moon shape of the unilobed lip. The lip of albayense fits this plant much better and the crest is distinctly two cuneate lumps, both better fits to D. albayense. D. albayense is about 1 cm in N.S. and D. lunatum is only .5 cm. This flower measures 1.1 cm. Plant habit, size, etc., all are an excellent fit to D. albayense.
