Finding

Scaphyglottis pulchella and S. clavata are very similar; however, Scaphyglottis pulchella plants are almost reedstemmed, whereas those of S. clavata have distinctly swollen upper sections (Club-Shaped) and much broader leaves. Also, S. pulchella has larger flowers with larger, fatter sepals and petals and a wider lip. Supporting images are found in the IOSPE, orchidroots.com and the OW. Identification was confirmed as well by Dr. Franco Pupulin.

Nineteen pendent, nodding flowers and one bud on 17 fasciculate inflorescences to 3-cm long; plant caespitose to 90-cm tall, slender, superposed stems mostly covered by papery bracts; each stem bifoliate at apex with narrowly lanceolate, acuminate glossy leaves; sepals and petals pale rose subtly striped purple; sepals lanceolate, acute, dorsal sepal concave; petals ovate-lanceolate, slightly asymmetric; lip somewhat widely oblong, cream, bilaterally symmetrically striped rose-pink; column slender, slightly dilated at apex, pale green; native to Costa Rica, ID confirmed by Franco Pupulin.
